Tannhäuser On The Town

Omaha Summer Arts Festival Gallery Tour

June 26, 2004

Old Market

Omaha, NE

As part of the Omaha Summer Arts Festival, ANALOG arts ensemble mounted a progressive performance of an extremely reduced version of Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Arranged for multiple small ensembles by Rudolf Kämper and Joseph Drew, the opera was spread out over most of Omaha’s Old Market district. The sirens from Act I sounded at the Omaha Artists’ Co-Op Gallery, and the hunting horn calls echoed down the Gene Leahy Mall. Tannhäuser was presented non-linearly, with listeners free to engage with Wagner’s score to whatever degree they preferred, while they viewed the art presented in Omaha’s galleries.
