Johnny Chang, Violinist & Composer
Johnny Chang is a violinist/composer based in Berlin. He has studied composition with Michael Pisaro, James Tenney and Christian Wolff. In performance Mr Chang has collaborated with many performers both in the new music genre as well as those with more experimental inclination. Recent influences come from phonography and its performative potentials as well as very old music and an assortment of indie pop/rock combinations.
Highlights of past performances:
US premiere of the Ferneyhough String Trio as part of the Ensemble Sospeso Ferneyhough Retrospective at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York City. Appearance at the Beyond Geometry exhibition, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, performing John Cage’s 19”37.998’ for a string player. US premiere of the Terry Jenning’s String Quartet, Minimalist Juke Box Festival at Disney Hall, Los Angeles. Appearances with Southwest Chamber Music at the Schoenberg Institute, Vienna.
